Staying in Your Job?

The new year is a time for reflection and review. Now, I am not going to get all psychology-touchy-feely-go sign up for meditation camp on you. Instead, I'd rather share some real action tools. Something you can actually understand and use.

Now, when you're contemplating whether anything is right for you (a new sweater, house, husband, whatever), it's easy to do the back and forth dance, the pros and cons list, the maybe and maybe nots. But in reality it isn't about comparing apples to oranges. First ask yoursel a series of questions about your current opportunity and then when and if you decide to move on, you can eval

For the questions, here's a great start, an article from the Portland Business Journal on career reassessment for 2008. Author Joan Lloyd asks some great questions including:
1) Have I looked around the room during a meeting, or in my work area, and said, "I don't want to be a part of this group"?
2) Do I feel a huge sense of relief when Friday comes?
3) What four things did I really enjoy in my job last year and what percentage of the total job do they represent?

Once you make that decision, then you can use my Career Kaleidoscope to figure out your career sweet spot and determine where to go next.

Remember, it isn't a comparison proposition. Make your decisions one step at a time. You wouldn't compare two husbands and then choose one, would you?
